Size

These goats grow to 19 inches tall at the shoulder (24 inches tall at the head) and about 50-55 pounds.

Really – they’re little. Just watch this short video and see for yourself!

Diet

Kitchen scraps, most garden waste, hay, and grain. Goats are herbivores.

Space Requirements

goat walkingAdequate shelter must be provided. At least 130 square feet of fenced outdoor space per animal is preferable. Fence should be at least 4 feet tall.

Waste

Goat manure is not toxic (unlike the feces of cats and dogs), and can be safely composted.

Risk to Humans

Female and neutered male goats do not bite. Goats in Colorado do not need to be vaccinated against any diseases that transfer to humans.

Milk

Goat milk is more easily digested than cow milk because the fat molecules are smaller. Many people who can’t drink cow milk can safely consume goat milk.
